Pennines2Pounds Charity Ball Mon 27th August 2012
Three local men will be trekking 300 miles over 12 days to raise money for soldiers fighting in Afghanistan. Dougie Morrison, whose son Luke lost part of this left leg in a roadside bomb blast whilst serving in Afghanistan will be joined by his brother-in-law Billy Bell and friend Andy Graham, in a trek across The Pennines.
They are hoping to raise between £7000 and £10,000 for the Afghanistan Trust which supports the Parachute Regiment that Luke was a member of.
However, the fundraising does not stop there. We will be playing host to a dinner on September 14th to help raise extra funds. Tickets cost £40 per person and include welcome drinks and canapes on arrival, a 3-course meal, followed by a disco.

For tickets contact Marilyn on 07540 969536 or Christine on 07888 750260.
Hillbrooke go to Godminster Tue 10th July 2012
At the beginning of the month the team had a day out to Godminster Farm to learn a little more about how Godminster cheese is made – as we use it in all of our restaurants across the board. The first stop of the tour was the soft cheese making unit where we got to oversee the fresh milk from Godminster’s own cows being turned into their delicious, creamy cheese. Of course health and safety rules applied, for the sake of the cheese, hence the ‘quirky’ outfits in the image below.

The next part of the tour took the team on a trip through the fields, travelling the only way possible on a farm – by tractor and trailer… in the rain! It was on the back of the tractor that we got a chance to see the animals, crops and woodland, without which there would be no Godminster.

Finally we were allowed back inside and out of the rain for lunch, which included salad, grown by Godminster’s gardener Nicole, fresh baked bread by The Chapel Bakery and Restaurant in Bruton and of course Godminster cheese!
After lunch the team took a stroll around the walked garden, learning about all the different fruits and herbs used to experiment new products with. Then it was time to milk the cows (some of the team were more eager than others)!

Our day at Godminster was both fascinating and entertaining. It gave us a chance to connect with one of our suppliers so we could learn and truly appreciate the processes of a dairy farm.
Jubilant Celebrations Thu 07th June 2012
The great and the good of Stamford celebrated the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in style at our very own Street Party. The day was a brilliant success despite the questionable weather, although we did manage to enjoy a snatch of blue sky! Guests enjoyed a delicious hog roast and BBQ, whilst being serenaded by the amazing soul guitarist Dan Perrin. Mimosa Bakery also provided us with their ever popular cupcakes with special Jubilee decoration, which sold out in record time.
Your personal invitation... Tue 15th May 2012
The Bull and Swan is delighted to invite you and your family to a St Martins Street Party on Monday 4th June to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
Rather than holding it in the High Street, which might make us a little unpopular, we’re holding it on our own terrace at the back of the inn, complete with Hog Roast, Local Real Ales, Live Music throughout the day and oodles of Patriotism!
